FYI, did you know that YouTube has a closed captioning button that will add subtitles to most recent videos? It's not perfect but might be of help if you can't understand what someone (like Jeff) is saying in a video.

TES531 Week#7 - Presentations & Midterm Prep

Part#1 - Presentations

Take a look at the Presentation Guide.  (screencast overview here)

Things to Do
  • Look for presentations of interest on SlideshareAuthorstream, or Prezi and post them on your blog.
  • Create your own simple PreziPowToon, or Google Presentation and post it on your blog.
  • Use Diigo to bookmark at least three presentations and/or presentation sites of interest.

Part#2 Midterm Prep
Your midterm will be a 15 minute Hangout  session with Jeff.  During this time, we will...
A) review  the tasks you completed so far and discuss any challenges, confusions, or ideas you have about the tools used

B) discuss which materials and skills you would like to develop during the second part of this course.  While I will still introduce a few new tools and resources in weeks 9~14, most of that time will be spent  having you develop CALL-related materials for your current and future teaching environments.

C) share any other thoughts and questions about this course and how to make the second part of it as useful as possible for you.

Please make sure your Task Checklist is up-to-date by April 20.  Check the Week#7 update sent to your Gmail account for a link to your personalized checklist.

Midterms will take place between April 21~26.  You can schedule your Hangout time in the TES531Midterm Schedule Doc by writing your name in your desired time slot.  Please sign up for  time slot by April 17.

TES531 Week#6 - Audio

Week#6 Overview Video
Please see the update at the bottom of this post regarding the alternative to Dropbox.

Explore the Audio Guide.  I'll be uploading some 'how-to' screencasts soon, so don't get stuck for too long trying to figure anything out.

Things to do/try
  •  Explore the audio-related sites listed in the Audio Guide.  Use Diigo to bookmark at least three interesting sites (from there or other sources). These can include audio activity sites, podcasts, audio utilities, or anything else that is related to the use of audio for language learning.
  • Register at Voki.com, create a Voki chatbot, and post it on your blog.  Screencast Guide here
  • - Download and install Audacity and Lame Encoder.
-Record and edit an audio file with Audacity.
You will need some kind of external mic or headset to do this. This can be on any type of monologue or conversation (e.g. an overview of your past week,  highs and lows of the CALL course so far, an interview with a family member, or anything else you'd like to record).
    - Export it as an mp3 file.
    - Then either
         - (easy) upload it to your Google Drive and share it with pufslebow@gmail.com
         - (more challenging) updated!  Because new Dropbox accounts no longer support 'public links' , if you want to to post it on your blog with a flash player like this

you'll need to use PBWorks.  PBWorks Guide here
